Do I need a fire rated staircase in my extension? Empty Do I need a fire rated staircase in my extension?

My extension is a two storey extension to a first floor flat. The drawing shows that the staircase access is from a downstairs hallway, going up to an open plan sitting room. The kitchen access is off the hallway via a door, according to the architect the staircase should be fire rated. Having recently left the buiding trade, I know that we wouldn't have had tofit one on any of the developements that I worked on, so I am wondering if the regs have changed.
