Works of Art In Our Midst
But writing the captions reminded me of what Fr. Nick Lalog (Minor 1982, refectorian namin, Major in the 90's after a degree from UST and a stint with GMA News) told me: That we were living among works by our major national artists.
Our Chapel (half-circle) was designed by National Artist for Architecture Leandro Locsin as a prototype of his concept which eventually was used for the Bel-Air Chapel (three-fourths of a circle) and was perfected with the Church of the Holy Sacrifice (UP Chapel) in Diliman (complete circle).
Did you even pay attention to the unusual design of our pews? Those and the Stations of the Cross were by National Artist Napoleon Abueva.
The Cross and the tabernacle were by Ed Castrillo, the artist who created our Lady's image at the EDSA Shrine. Did you notice the design of our Chapel's doors, also by Ed Castrillo? Each one depicts a scene in Salvation History, from the Fall of Man to the Parousia.
Our Main Building was by another architect famous at that time, Marcos De Guzman. Ever wondered why the dorm and the study hall were always somehow comfortable even in the heat of the day? Because the architecture was good.
Without knowing it, we were surrounded by works of art. But i bet many of you, like me, hardly noticed.

Nice one, Sir Bistek. Pansin ko nga, very special yung design ng chapel. Just a few months ago, I started going to mass at the UP chapel, tapos napansin ko, parang kamukha nga ng chapel natin...Kaya pala. Thanks for the trivia!

____ It makes me more proud na ngspend ako ng years maximizing those structures..

If only it was told within the orientation period... I think many would pay attention and will take extra extra good care of those pieces of art that will allow everyone feel how our ICS is simply not just a place of silence and prayer for some but most of all it is our HOME...

syempre, need natin manalangin

hope those who are now being housed in the minor sem appreciate what they have ...
tama si pip, that must be part of the orientation, and even, of their studies. di naman agad nila makuha iyon at ma-appreciate. sana kuhanin si bastek na magbigay ng talk about the minor sem.
